About us
What is the Social Enterprise Network? (SEN)
SEN is a Merseyside based network of non-profit distributing businesses and community and voluntary sector organisations. It aims to present 'one voice' to advocate for and support the development of the SE sector and is recognised in its representative role by major public agencies. The membership, currently 220, brings together local development trusts, intermediate labour market companies, tenants’ associations, community businesses, social firms, credit unions, LETS projects, advice agencies and workers’ co-operatives in Greater Merseyside (Merseyside and Halton).
The development and formation of SEN was stimulated by chairs and other volunteers within community and neighbourhood organisations, who, along with practitioners, formed a steering group in June 1999 to take the necessary work forward. Development was actively supported and facilitated through the CBED (community based economic development) team of Liverpool City Council, and the Development Trust Association.
The main purpose and focus was driven by the collective concerns and aspirations of the membership. Social Enterprise Network is an autonomous body, constituted / incorporated as a company limited by guarantee.
